On this day, 5 members from MTREC was invited by Malayan Railway Fan Club (Official) to a group visit to East Coast Rail Link - ECRL Section 10 Kuantan Depot to learn more about the latest information and progress of the ECRL, as well as the functions and features of multiple engineering trains and machinery used to carry out the trackworks.
Our visit began at the conference room of the Project Management Office within the depot, where we received a project briefing on the ECRL by Mr. Mohd Hazwan, ECRL’s Senior Trackwork Engineer, along with his team. The presentation covered general information about the ECRL, trackworks, and the rolling stock that will be used, followed by a Q&A session with the MRL team.
After the briefing, a memento was presented to ECRL as a token of appreciation to MRL for hosting our visit. In return, MRL gave all participants a souvenir. A group photo with MRL team was also taken in the conference room with all participants.
The visit then continued at the Project Showroom, where PPE was provided to all participants and a safety briefing was given. MRL team also provided detailed explanations about the machineries used in the project using train model displayed in the showroom as well as a detailed explanation of the tracklaying base using a depot layout to illustrate the function and operations of each facilities.
After that, the visit continues at the Construction Railway Operation Control Center (CROCC), where the project's works and progress are monitored. The CROCC can track the production line for sleepers and receive real-time updates from all railway vehicles operating along the ECRL line. It utilizes 5G and satellite technology to ensure safe and efficient construction activities.
Following that, we were given an exclusive tour of the depot site, where we got an up close look at the Rail Motor Vehicle GC270 manufactured by Gemac, and Diesel Locomotive DF8B made by CRRC Ziyang. Everyone were given detailed explanations of these machines and were allowed to take photos with them. All participants were also fortunate to witness the DF8B locomotive being started up.
Finally, our site visit concluded with everyone gathering back at the CROCC to return their PPE. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to MRFC, ECRL, MRL, and all the personnel involved for making this visit a successful.
This educational visit to ECRL Kuantan Depot shows a success in our group collaboration with other railway fans community. We look forward to organising more events in the future.
