Today marks the first day operation of KTM Berhad's Electric Train Service (ETS) extension from Segamat to Kluang with a new train service from KL Sentral to Kluang. In conjunction with this extension, KTM also introduced a new train known as ETS3 and it is designated as Class 94. 8 members from MTREC gathered for a joyride to become the first train rider on this train and to celebrate the extension of ETS.
Participants gathered at KL Sentral around 07:30 to catch the first ETS train EP9511 scheduled for departure on 07:45. Before heading to the platform, goodies bag were handed out to all the passengers on this train. Participants took the opportunity to selfie along with group photo with first set of the new train before the train departs.
Upon our on-time arrival at Kluang, we were greeted by Kapten EJ as well as multiple news and media agency. Participants then went to take photo with train and we waited for the train to leave the station heading for Mengkibol where the train will be stabled there until the return journey.
After the train left the station, participants then took the opportunity to check out the famous Kluang Rail Coffee, a local coffee shop located at the old station just adjacent to the new station. Despite the long queue and long waiting time, we were able to order a few local delight to fill our tummy. 2 participants left early to catch the Ekspres Selatan No. 43 where they continue their journey all the way to JB Sentral. After our brunch, participants took the time to explore "Laman Rel Mahkota" a linear railway park revamped from old KTM alignment.
Our return journey continues with the same train ETS301 now working as EP9514, is also the first ETS train to depart from Kluang to KL Sentral and passengers were given goodies bag. Our train departed on-time 17:13 along with a flag off ceremony. Upon our on time arrival at KL Sentral, participants stayed at the platform to see the train departs.
Finally, our joyride concluded at Kuala Lumpur station with a late dinner at the mamak located at the station. It was a fun and tiring day for all our participants, and the joyride left us eager for more adventures! Congratulations to KTM Berhad for launching this new ETS between KL Sentral and Kluang.
This joyride event on the new train for KTM Electric Train Service to Kluang shows a success in our group to promote the use of ETS on the southern sector. We are looking forward to organising more events in the future to promote the use of our rail system in Malaysia.
