On this day, 7 members from MTREC representing Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and France participated in an educational visit to MRT Jakarta Phase 2A construction site (CP201 project), involving the extension from Bundaran HI to Monas with an additional station at Thamrin. The visit aimed to provide participants with first-hand exposure to ongoing underground metro construction works in Jakarta.
The visit began at the Monas Site Visitor Center, where participants arrived and were equipped with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). A safety briefing was then conducted by Mr. Andrew, Safety Supervisor at the site, who also introduced the project using a miniature scale model of the construction area. Participants were further briefed on essential safety procedures before entering the active construction zone.
Following the briefing, participants were introduced to the CP201 project scope, including the extension works and station developments. A group photograph was taken outside the visitor centre in front of the project information board, followed by the presentation of a token of appreciation to MRT Jakarta as a gesture of gratitude for hosting the visit.
The construction tour then commenced with a walk from the south entrance down to the future Monas Station. Participants were guided through the station concourse level, where detailed explanations of the station layout and design were provided, before proceeding to the platform level. This marked the first opportunity for many participants to observe an underground station still under active construction.
The tour continued into the tunnel section, where track installation had not yet been completed. Participants were informed that the overall CP201 project is now more than 90% complete. A group photograph was taken inside the tunnel, where participants expressed great interest and amazement at experiencing a real metro tunnel environment beyond what is normally seen from operating trains. After exiting via the north entrance, the group returned to the visitor centre, where the visit concluded with light refreshments and informal discussions.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to MRT Jakarta, especially Mr Ridho (Corporate Communication), Mr M. Yoga Bambang P. (Corporate Secretary), Ms. Umi Habibah (Corporate Secretary), Ms. Shifa Ghania A. (Corporate Secretary), Ms. Amalia Hasanah Nur Ahlina (Operation Planning), and all personnel involved for their warm hospitality and efforts in making this educational visit a success.
This educational visit to MRT Jakarta Phase 2A Construction Site shows a success in our group for strengthening MTREC’s understanding of metro construction systems. As MTREC's first overseas technical visit, this represents an important milestone in our efforts to support international railway engagement. We look forward to organising more educational visits in the future to promote greater understanding of urban rail transportation.
