Electric Train Service (ETS) is Malaysia’s fastest intercity rail service operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). ETS provides long distance passenger service using modern electric trains that comfortable and convenient.
ETS runs on the West Coast Main Line between Padang Besar and JB Sentral with an operational speed of up to 145 km/h. The network connect cities in Peninsular Malaysia from North to South including Padang Besar, Butterworth, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. ETS trains offer reserved seats with standard and business class with onboard facility to cater for long distance journey.
Introduced since 2010, ETS marked a major modernisation of KTMB’s passenger services by offering shorter travel time between cities and helped strengthen rail connectivity for intercity trips across Peninsular Malaysia.

EX - ETS Express
ETS Express is the fastest service with the least stops among ETS services. This service focus on point-to-point service and stop as least as 2 stations only before arriving at final destination. This service is suitable for passengers who prefer shorter travel times.
EP - ETS Platinum
ETS Platinum is the premium service operating to and from KL Sentral and only stop at selected stations along the route. This service offer both standard and business class and it is suitable for passenger who travel for long distance.
EG - ETS Gold
ETS Gold is the standard service operating North to South and stop at most of the stations along the route. This service only offer standard class and it is suitable for passengers travelling to, from, and between intermediate destinations along the route.
ES - ETS Silver
ETS Silver is the most affordable service with the most stops among ETS services. This service focus on regional connectivity and only runs between KL Sentral - Ipoh. There is only 1 service per direction daily and usually cater for people working in Klang Valley but stay outside of Klang Valley. However, ETS Silver is no longer operating as of 01/01/2026 with the new timetable introduced.
SP - ETS Special
ETS Special operate for specific purposes and do not follow a fixed daily schedule. They are usually introduced during high peak travel periods, such as school holidays and major festive seasons to increase capacity on busy routes. ETS Special is also used for chartered, VVIP or special events with routes and stopping patterns arranged based on operational needs.

ETS trains use a standard train number system to identify the service route and service category. Each train number consists of two letters followed by four digits.
The 1st and 2nd digits indicate the route served, the 3rd digit shows the ETS service type, while the 4th digit represents the train sequence number for the day and increases based on the scheduled order of services. The first train of the day starts with a lower number, while later services use higher numbers depending on the total trips for that day.
This train number system allow trains to be easily identified in timetables for both operators and passengers.
Meaning of the 1st and 2nd digits:
90XX: KL Sentral – Ipoh
91XX: KL Sentral – Butterworth
92XX: KL Sentral – Padang Besar
93XX: Butterworth – Segamat
94XX: Padang Besar – JB Sentral
95XX: KL Sentral – JB Sentral
99XX: Special train services
Meaning of the 3rd digit:
0 – 1: ETS Express
2 – 3: ETS Platinum
4 – 5: ETS Gold
6 – 7: ETS Silver
8 – 9: ETS Special train services
Meaning of the 4th digit:
Odd numbers: Southbound services (Down track) towards JB Sentral.
Even numbers: Northbound services (Up track) towards Butterworth and Padang Besar.
